Market mechanisms control the sorting of waste – and an urban plan by Rem Koolhaas
The City has introduced an ambitious recycling program, where around 70% of all waste is recycled. It makes use of market mechanisms to encourage citizens to change their behaviour. Rising water levels are also a challenge in this part of Belgium, so you can also learn about the City's flood protection strategies along a 7 km-long riverbank.
Other highlights from the program:
· Visit to an urban laboratory for sustainable development
· Meetings and presentations from experts from the City of Antwerp.
· Mobility along the waterfront: cyclists, pedestrians and heavy goods traffic
· Urban development in Nieuw Zuid based on plans by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
Number of days: 2-3 days
