ArkiTours offers around 24 visitor programs (or professional study tours), which range from the international, (see tours abroad) to the Danish, in particular Copenhagen. Common to all the programs is that you will learn about future cities and buildings by seeing them in real life. You’ll also get to meet the international (and Danish) professionals responsible for creating them.
Around 10,000 managers and employees have travelled with ArkiTours, from companies with 40 or 150 employees to local councils with 11 people, especially on international trips. Danish clients include AI a/s, Gottlieb Paludan, NCC, the social housing organisation Boligkontoret Danmark, the housing association Fredericia Boligforening and numerous municipalities; see also Customers.
There is a growing interest in study trips to Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg from countries outside of Denmark. Visitors can learn about the way we create outdoor environments, harbour baths, buildings constructed in accordance with the 17 UN Sustainable Goals and our cycling culture. There is also a great deal of interest in Danish architecture and our high regard for quality.
Norwegian customers include LINK Arkitektur, the Norwegian Association of Municipal Engineers (NKF) and Sandnes Municipality – while Swedish architect studios include Cederwall Arkitekter and Arkitekthuset Jönköbing.
ArkiTours was founded by Dorte Augustenborg, architect m.a.a. (member of the Danish Association of Architects) in 2007. She was joined on 1 January 2019 by art historian Pia Thomsen, and the company is now a partnership with two equal owners, ArkiTours I/S.
Dorte trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art's School of Architecture in Copenhagen and has a BSc in Communication from Copenhagen Business School. After having worked as an architect in architect offices a number of years, she was events coordinator at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art for 10 years. Dorte began arranging tours for architects as a sideline back in the ‘90s.
e time was right’, as there was a great need among building project partners to experience architecture on a one-to-one basis. Since then, some 10,000 people have travelled with ArkiTours, both in and outside of Denmark. Architect studios, municipalities, engineers and developers have gained insight and knowledge about built environments together with ArkiTours, which was expanded on 1 January 2019 with partner Pia Thomsen.
Pia became a partner in ArkiTours on 1 January 2019. Pia has a background in a museum publishing company and has been owner of the communications bureau DIALOG Kommunikation for 10 years. Pia arranges study trips for Danish and international customers, both internationally and in Denmark. She also takes care of ArkiTours' social media profile, PR and other marketing activities.
The Norwegian market is an area that Pia is especially interested in developing. In addition, ArkiTours has the capacity to offer study trips for international organisations in the construction industry across all of Denmark – a task Pia is also responsible for.
Pia has a Master's degree in Nordic Language and Literature and Art History, with an extension in Museum Studies from New York University, USA.
